Mock Trial Jurors Needed
The Trial Lawyer’s Section is conducting its prestigious 39th annual Chester H. Bedell Mock Trial Competition virtually this year. Eight law schools with two teams each are expected to be competing via Zoom from January 20rd to the 22th, 2021.
The trials are presided over by state and federal court judges, but they do not determine which team moves on in the competition. Instead, lawyers are needed to sit as scoring jurors to judge each round of the competition. The trial teams, judges and jurors will all appear virtually, so there will be no need for in person attendance this year, so jurors may appear from their offices/homes anywhere in the state.
We will need at least 5 lawyers for each round of the competition. Those rounds take place Wednesday morning, January 20, 2021 from 9:00 am to noon, Wednesday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00pm, Thursday morning (the 21st) from 9:00 am to noon, and Thursday afternoon from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. As teams are eliminated, our jury pool drops for Thursday morning and afternoon. As a result we need:
40 jurors for Wednesday morning (1/20/21) at 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
40 jurors for Wednesday afternoon (1/20/21) at 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
25 jurors for Thursday morning (1/21/21) at 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
10 jurors for Thursday afternoon (1/21/21) at 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Attending one session entitles you to 9 hours of CLE or Civil Trial Certification credit. Although a volunteer may participate in more than one trial, there is maximum 9 hour credit that a juror may receive for the competition. There is no cost to the jurors for their participation and the level of talent of these young future lawyers are is truly amazing.
