Florida Supreme Court’s Opinion on Judicial Circuit Court Consolidation and Realignment
In response to a legislative inquiry, the Florida Supreme Court tasked a Judicial Assessment Committee to examine the necessity of consolidating judicial circuits in Florida. The committee, consisting of a diverse panel of attorneys and legal professionals, including TLS Secretary & Treasurer Wiley Braxton Gillam IV, conducted a thorough five-month examination, involving public hearings, surveys, and data analysis.
While the committee recognized the need for greater uniformity in technology and court processes, it unanimously concluded that there is no imperative need for consolidation, as it would not enhance the judicial process, save costs, or improve public trust.
Aligned with the committee’s findings, the court, after independent evaluation, firmly affirms that there is presently no requirement to consolidate Florida’s judicial circuits.
